A weekend at the Crew

We’re back from our weekend in Columbus and one word describes it AWESOME! 2009-06-28-1524-19 Christian and his buddy Matt had a blast and even learned quite a bit too in the process.  Talk has begun about doing it again next year, maybe at a totally different stadium, who knows we might just travel to all the MLS stadiums!

I was completely amazed at the speed at which they play.  It’s like watching lightening.  In fact I had a hard time initially taking pictures and wasn’t quite sure if I could even get any good shots off….needless to say 150+ shots later I got a few good ones, lol!

It was great to sit in the stands (which we had great seats btw) and listen to Christian yell at the players and tell them what to do.  I’m thinking the parents chalked up a major hit with this one and it’s a memory Christian will carry with him for a lifetime!

We’re packed…..

Ok we’re all packed and ready to head out for the big trip to Columbus for the MLS (Major League Soccer) game tomorrow, Columbus Crew against New York Red Bulls.  These are the tickets that we surprised Christian with for his birthday, remember this….IMG_1819

Well as I speak type Christian and his buddy Matt are out side practicing their moves skills and talking all about this trip.

I don’t know if I can handle 2 teenage boys, plus Ben for over a four hour road trip, I’m thinking knowing I’m going to need alot of chocolate!!

It’ll be nice though to finally spend some time with the Rhino.  Since the beginning of May, we’ve hardly have seen the illusive beast.  Between Civil War re-enactment, soccer, hanging out with friends, and he did a couple days stint house sitting with my mom for my aunt, we were beginning to wonder if we truly did have a child, lol.  Awww the wonders of being a parent to a teenager, well at least he shows up every now and then AND we can always track him down by the little device that NEVER leaves a teenagers hand…….cell phone….LOL!!

Grease on the face never hurt anyone

2009 John Brown's Farm 056 As promised, here are some pictures of Christian getting initiated into the Battery by getting his face swabbed.  Good times, good times!

By the smile on his face, I’m thinking he didn’t mind it at all either, lol!

Thanks Capt Doug for doing the honors and thanks to the entire Battery for making our son feel right at home!

Fire at Night

We received a picture from the battery with Christian (you can’t see him in the picture but hey the picture is AWESOME!) firing off the cannon at night (as mentioned in the post below).  I’m thinking know I really missed something great!  Just look at the blast….well it’s not really a blast but, you get what I mean!

Get to it Private!

IMG_2685Christian just returned from his weekend long re-enactment event at John Brown’s Farm.  Ben, my father and I made the trip down to see the kiddo in action on Saturday.  It was neat to see the whole set-up of living in the Civil War era.  Needless to say, Christian came back with lots of stories to tell…..including setting a tree on fire Saturday night due to the fact of shooting of the cannon at night and shooting steel wool at of it (the owner of the farm thought it was hilarious!), was sorry that I missed that!

Christian was also officially initiated into the Battery too!  He got to shoot the cannon off two times today and got his face swabbed by the jamming stick (the rod they jam the shot down the cannon barrel).  I’m being told pictures were taken so hopefully I can share them at some point.IMG_2682

Well Christian’s off on his own now a lot of the times and I think we’ve prepared him quite well for the big bad life ahead BUT no one has prepared me for life without my son around ~~~~ oh this is going to be sooooo much harder than I thought/dreamed!
